Why Bio × AI Is the Story of the Decade — and Why This Blog Exists
TL;DR
Biology is increasingly a data problem — and AI is unusually good at those. Protein structure prediction has already been transformed; genome interpretation and drug design are entering a faster, more model-driven phase. Three times a week I’ll pick one high-impact, recent development in that space and explain it TL;DR-first, then go as deep as you want. This is issue zero: what to expect and why.
Why this matters now
For most of history, biology moved at the speed of wet-lab experiments. In the last few years that changed: sequence and structure data got big enough, and models got good enough, that you can increasingly predict and prioritize biology before committing to the bench. This doesn’t replace experiments — models still learn from measurements and still need them for validation — but it flips the question from “measure everything” to “which molecules, variants, and hypotheses are worth testing first.” That shift touches medicine, agriculture, and how we understand life itself — and it’s moving fast enough that even people in the field struggle to keep up.
I write from the intersection of biophysics, machine learning, and drug discovery, and I care most about separating benchmark progress from biological and clinical progress.
